Finally! A crowd-funding online platform for emerging fashion designers in Asia!
ZAOZAO is launching in July and I am mega excited! Described as Kickstarter meets Fab meets Moda Operandi by its founders (according an interview by Techinasia), how it works is simple:
- Designers upload designs and decide on the funding amount required for production
- Each design has 21 days to reach its target funding goal
- Once funding targets are reached, production starts and everyone is happy!
Some designers I know are tend to get stuck with inventory due to production minimums – but no such problems here, as demand is ascertained before production even begins!
I’ve been in contact with the team and they were very friendly and great in answering all the little questions I’ve had.
So for designers – jump onboard! And for everyone else, stay tuned! :)
p/s if you were wondering about the name, ZAOZAO is a play on the words “early”, “discovery” and “make” in Mandarin (早, 找, and 造). How smart is that!
Very cool that there is a crowdfunding platform dedicated to fashion in Asia.
Have you heard of anything similar in North America or Europe?
I think that fashion is a great application for crowdfunding and can see a lot of people wanting to get involved in the creation of fun, new fashion brands.
Glad I found your post, now just need to find a platform in my part of the world : )
Cheers,
Joel
Hi Joel! I’ve heard of a few in North America and Europe but it seems that they have since closed down :/
There is sketchstreet (http://www.sketchstreet.com) based in the UK which uses a slightly different model according to themes and is based partly on selection by the audience. I’ll be doing a post on that soon for more!
Would love to hear if you find anything else :)
“Excellent site you have here but I was curious if you knew of any forums
that cover the same topics discussed here? I’d really love to be a part of community where I can get suggestions from other experienced individuals that share
the same interest. “
