DIY maternity photos at home

Throughout my pregnancy, I had toyed with the idea of getting some maternity photos done. Partly for fun (I was itching to plan/ be involved in a shoot again) and partly for memory’s sake.

When the third trimester rolled around however, water retention and general tiredness just seemed to take over. The thought of frolicking in a field while sweating buckets really didn’t appeal to me. What’s more, purchasing all our baby necessities also increased our expenditure greatly and paying for maternity photos just seemed to take the backseat in terms of priority.

So what better to do than to do it yourself! We aren’t too picky and like things being simple, so random photos at home suited us just fine.

p/s I’ll be sharing some tips at the end of this post!

New beginnings (part I)

The end of 2013 and 2014 has been a season of new beginnings. In navigating these new waters, I’ve been amiss in posting regularly but hopefully things will get better with time!

For those who have been asking about what’s been going on, I’ve decided to post up a brief update of how crazy life has been with one thing happening after another.

The first new beginning: Married life (early Aug 2013)

Renovations starting!

Things are moving along steadily and we’re finally hitting the halfway mark in renovating our new home!

The plans are mostly done and hacking of the old cabinets and floor will start tomorrow. There were so many decisions to make in the planning process and it was pretty overwhelming – what appliances to use, what size, what brand and what functions… and all to fit within our budget (which was the hardest part).

In this journey, some of our differences also became quite stark. My fiance likes to make decisions immediately and efficiently, whereas I like to mull over these things and check out other stores to see if we can get a better deal. Sounds familiar to anyone?

IKEA transformed with Superfront

I’ve always found IKEA a good go-to for quick home furnishing needs on a moderate budget. I know there’s been a lot of talk on quality and shelf life but that has never really bothered me. I’ve had a few tables warp or break over the years. But I’ve also had a foldable table that has lasted me 15 years and counting.

Nevertheless I’ll admit – I don’t really think long-term when it comes to furniture and living arrangements as I like changing things up once in a while. (Of which I have duly given my future husband a heads-up!)

For our new home, we’ve been looking out for furniture and IKEA is definitely one of the places we are looking at due to budget constraints and sheer convenience.

Most of the stuff is nice enough, but guess what I just found to make it even nicer!

Hellooo Superfront.

Retro phones for the home

Renovating your home can be expensive as we’ve come to realize recently. Although we’re not at a stage where we can afford just any furniture or renovation detail that we like, the thought of building a our very first home together is exciting enough.

That said, it’s always a joy to find cool home items online and in stores. While listing the appliances we needed, we realized we would probably like a home phone to make calls.

Here’s a couple of really cool phones in retro designs that would add a really nice touch to the room:
